The introduction of a new camo pattern in today’s saturated market might seem a bit drab. There are so many different options available for today’s hunter that it’s easy just to gloss over yet another pattern hitting the shelves. But in this case, I’m thinking quite differently.
With the introduction of Veros, KUIU has finally designed a pattern that’s been requested for years. One that has whitetail hunters and waterfowl hunters in mind. Sure, their other patterns are great options too, but I never felt like they perfectly matched the terrain around me in the November hardwoods while hunting the rut. Valo, Vias, and Verde have all earned their respective rights as top camo options for Western hunters dealing with open country, hunting above the treeline, or being buried in a north-facing evergreen slope, but we whitetail hunters had to pick and choose our patterns as the season drones on.
Now, picking and choosing is a thing of the past. When the leaf litter falls and the cold weather sets in on the Eastern mountain oak flats, I’ll be leaning on the new Veros lineup. Built with dark breakup patterns and a natural, non-photorealistic pattern, hardwood hunters can trust that this new camo was designed to keep them concealed throughout their hunt.
Why Veros Was Needed and Created

For years, I’d heard from hunters across the Northeast that they love KUIU’s functionality in the field. It’s warm, durable, and technical. All things that serious hunters really want out of a clothing company. But, I’d also heard those same hunters complain about the camo pattern not fitting into our area, and frankly, I couldn’t help but agree.
While hunting out West, I’d seen how powerful the KUIU patterns were in that landscape. I once lost my buddy on a glassing knob because I genuinely couldn’t find him in the glass. He was in plain sight, but his Valo had him blending in amongst the rocky sidehill perfectly. But, when he’d try to wear that pattern back home in the deer woods, he stuck out like a sore thumb against the side of a red oak.
It wasn’t just my experience, it was shared across the hunting space. And KUIU knew it too. They’d received countless requests for a darker, timber-focused pattern that could work in the whitetail woods once the leaves fell and the rut kicked in.
“Late-season timber and flooded hardwoods demand something darker and more adaptable than anything else in our lineup,” said Kevin Wilkerson, VP of Brand Marketing at KUIU. “Veros was built specifically for that environment. It’s the pattern our hunters have been asking for.”
That is why Veros was created. It fills a gap that genuinely existed, not one that was manufactured to drop yet another camo lineup. In my opinion, it’s just a plus that it also works in flooded timber. But then again, I don’t live anywhere close to good flooded timber, so perhaps I’m a bit biased toward the whitetail woods.
What Makes Veros Different?
I know what you’re thinking: “That’s great and all, but there are already plenty of hardwood camo options out there. Why on earth do I need this one?” Yes, there are a ton of hardwood options out there from Realtree, Mossy Oak, FirstLite, Sitka, and Badlands, just to name a few. But what sets Veros apart in my mind is the lack of photorealistic additions to the pattern. Unlike having a random stick or leaf on your chest, this pattern was created to truly break up your silhouette, rather than try to make you look like a tree limb.
Using digitized photos of real trees, KUIU designed Veros to blend into your surroundings, rather than be a single piece of cover. It utilizes the shadows, the light, the limbs, the bark, and everything in between to give you the ability to disappear in the hardwoods. By using colors from their solid lineup, such as arctic shadow base, major brown, ash dark brown, and asphalt dark grey, they were able to pull off a digital camo feel with a breakup camo look.

KUIU just released the new Veros pattern on August 12. The line includes a full roster of 18 quality products that are perfect for late-season deer hunters and flooded timber waterfowl hunters:
Final Thoughts on Veros
Admittedly, when KUIU first told me they were working on a new camo pattern, I had the same thought all serious hunters did. “Do we seriously need another camo pattern?” But in this case, when I learned it was finally time and they were creating a camo with hardwoods hunters in mind, my interest piqued. After getting my hands on a StrongFleece 290 WF Full Zip in the new Veros, I realized just how well thought out this new pattern really is.
Rather than simply trying to become a stick or a tree, Varos was created to break the mold of traditional hardwoods patterns and break up your outline to really help you blend into your surroundings. While the woods are still leafy and vibrant green, I can’t say how well it works just yet. But, I can tell you that my anticipation for November is higher now than ever.
